Do you have a family theme each year?
We haven’t before, but as the new ‘school’ year starts (even thou no one is in school right now) I wanted to start in September with a new family theme. I’ll be starting a mini pre-preschool with Von this next week and I wanted something that would help us really focus on what matters most.
I got the idea to have a theme from Stephanie Nielson, who also does this every year. I know she’s not the only one, but she’s the only blog I read that does this.
As I pondered and thought about what i want for our family right now, I realized that I want to make more of an effort to build a Christ-centered home.
We have strong faith and we go to church regularly, but we don’t talk about Him as often as I would like. We don’t always pray or read the scriptures together (though we do a lot of the time) but I want to be better in our efforts.
The theme we picked for this next ‘school year’ comes from 2 Nephi 25:26 which says
And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.
Christ will be a bigger part of our home and conversation starting today. I’m excited to not only be more rooted in Him myself, but also as a family. I want our home to be a safe haven from the world, and I know we need to be focused on Christ in order to do that.
Do you have a theme each year or school year? I’d love to hear what yours is this season!
