Come, Come Ye Saints

I went to church today.

For the first time since March, I went inside a church building and it was very weird.

Weird that we were all wearing masks and sitting far apart.
Weird at how normal it was to be wearing a mask and see everyone else wearing one too.
Weird because it felt so good and normal to be there, even though the meeting was short and we were all in masks.

I’m glad I got to go. I know that there is still so much of the world and churches that have not opened their doors yet because of COVID and I completely understand why.

Griffin stayed home with Von and I washed my hands immediately after. As weird as it is to not know anyone in our new ward (congregation) I didn’t stick around to talk to people. I want to be a good citizen and still practice as much social distancing as possible. I am grateful that wherever we live, there will always be a church to attend.

We just won’t meet all of the members this time around right away.

But, we started our meeting listening to/reading the words/a few people singing Come, Come Ye Saints which is a song that has given me so much comfort over the years. As I’ve been learning about the early saints in my Institute class this semester, these words hit home even more.

Come, come, ye Saints, no toil nor labor fear;
But with joy wend your way.
Though hard to you this journey may appear,
Grace shall be as your day.
‘Tis better far for us to strive
Our useless cares from us to drive;
Do this, and joy your hearts will swell–
All is well! All is well!

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard?
‘Tis not so; all is right.
Why should we think to earn a great reward
If we now shun the fight?
Gird up your loins; fresh courage take.
Our God will never us forsake;
And soon we’ll have this tale to tell–
All is well! All is well!

And should we die before our journey’s through,
Happy day! All is well!
We then are free from toil and sorrow, too;
With the just we shall dwell!
But if our lives are spared again
To see the Saints their rest obtain,
Oh, how we’ll make this chorus swell–
All is well! All is well!

As I reflected on the words today I felt so much comfort. God is still good, even when so much of what is happening in the world and in our lives doesn’t make sense. He is good and He is faithful. There is still hope that someday all will be well, even if that day is not today.

We Bought a House!!!

Woohoo!!

We did it! We bought a house (closed on Monday) and we are OFFICIALLY unpacked. Every box has been opened and everything put away. All in just 3.5 days (hi, yes, I’m exhausted, can I sleep for a week now?!?)

But we are so excited to be here.

After Griff lost his job last September, we really didn’t know what 2020 would look like for us. Then, when he got a new job that paid more and because we were living with his parents and not paying rent, we got out of debt and SAVED!

Now we have a cute little house that’s all ours.

Von LOVES it. I love it (AND I HAVE BOOKSHELVES AGAIN!!! HOORAY!!)

Our house was built in 1971, but someone just flipped it so the inside feels and looks brand new, but the neighborhood is established and we are just thrilled.

I’ll share more photos another day, but now I’m going to go read because I’ve been moving and unpacking and haven’t read in days and I really want to, and then I’m gonna try and go to bed before 10, because I’m an old lady and we’ve been staying till 11 (or later) the past few nights and I’m exhausted.

I hope you all had a lovely 4th and I can’t wait to share more about our house!

I’m also hoping to put my phone down more and be in the moment or in the quiet since those moments have brought me clarity and peace lately. All of my goal are on my blog today! Link in my bio. Now tell me about yours! I’d love to know how I can cheer you on this month, big or small 💕

📱 Better Together Do you give pretty high ratings? Most of my recent reads have been 4 or 5 stars, since I’ve been trying to put down books that I’m not loving as much! But this month it also makes sense, as half of my reads we’re re-reads and I don’t read books again (generally) unless it was a 4 or a 5 for me!

Repeat after me: “I can do today.” I was 19 w Repeat after me: “I can do today.” I was 19 when I first heard this mantra. And since then, whenever I’ve been having a bad mental health day or a bad day in general, I repeat this to myself (and sometimes it changes to “I can do this minute or hour”) You can do today.
You’ve got a pretty good track record for making it through hard days so far, and you can do today, even if it isn’t your best day. Have a good week friends ❤️
BOOK REVIEW 👩🏾‍🤝‍👩🏽 I *might* BOOK REVIEW 👩🏾‍🤝‍👩🏽 I *might* still be silently crying since I finished this last night. I’ve read a lot of books about breakups. A lot. But this one, ouch. When You Were Everything follows Cleo, who’s struggling to find herself and her place now that she’s lost her best friend. Told in then/now we get to see their friendship fall apart and the aftermath of their friend break up. And like, I wasn’t ready for the rush of memories that came. Or all the feelings that hurt my heart, knowing what it’s like to have a friend walk away or fall apart from your friendships But this book was so, so, so good. 5/5 stars. Definitely a favorite of the year. I highly recommend. It’ll give you all the feels but also make you smile. #tayeppreviews
