Last week I shared all of my thoughts about Of Rioters and Royals. Today I’m sharing my thoughts of the second book in this series, Entwined Paths.
And thank you to the author who provided a copy of her book for me to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thoughts about Entwined Paths
I really love this story and the magic in this world. I found the idea of having powers based on your eye color fascinating!
In Entwined Paths we go back in time several years before the first book took place. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that before in a second novel. And at first, I was a little annoyed. I was like “I just want to read more of the story! More about Emry and Declan.” But then I got sucked into the story.
In book two we get more of the backstory and a lot of character growth for both of these characters. And like I said, at first I was annoyed and thought I would completely not like it, but I was so wrong! I loved that we got to know more about these characters and see things click that had happened in the first book.
Similar to the first book, I struggled to get into the story at the beginning. I felt like there was a big info dump. But once I hit a certain point, the story really took off (just like I felt in book one) and I was hooked.
This series really is a fun YA fantasy that has an interesting magic system, a clean romance, and loveable characters!
About Of Rioters and Royals
Emry is a Royal – a princess of Enlennd. As is tradition, she must have a knight at her side as her protector. The only way to appoint one is through The Trials. Her Challengers from the five regions of Enlennd must compete for the infamous title of Princess’s Knight. The problem, though, is that the people of Enlennd are split into two categories: Rioters and Royals. Finding the perfect knight may be the last of her worries. War is coming to Enlennd.
Declan is a Rioter. An upriser. An anarchist. He mistrusts the Jewels – the sovereign family of Enlennd. Yet, he is offering himself up as a Challenger in The Trials. The Mistress, leader of the Rioters, has a mission for him. The first step is for him to become the Princess’s Knight. He is ready for the task, until he actually meets Emry and discovers that betraying her would be much more difficult than he’d thought.
