I’ve loved the Shatter Me series from day one but this book was…
????????? Those are all the things I felt (and more) while reading this. And I have so many thoughts.

First off, I was SO freaking confused as I started Imagine Me (I also didn’t remember any of Book 5 so that didn’t help) but then, even once I semi remembered what was happening I was like whaaaaat????
I wish there had been more Juliette and Warner in this book (alone or together I don’t really care at this point) cause we didn’t get a ton of them. They’ve had SO MANY amazing moments in this series and I’m so sad we didn’t get to see more of them. Warner and Juilette ARE the story is this series. This is their story and yet, we rarely saw Warner and the moments we saw Juliette were fairly confusing. That was disappointing.
Kenji gives a lot of comic relief, but I didn’t really think this was supposed to be his story and yet most of this was told from his POV ? but I did laugh my head off at some of his lines like:
“For a couple of months we forgot that Warner was scary. He smiled like four and a half times and we decided to forget that he was basically a psychopath with a long history of ruthless murder.”
“I’m not as terrified as the others, but I’m not stupid, either. I know his threats of violence aren’t a bluff. The only people unperturbed are the supreme kids. They look right at home with this version of him. Haider, maybe most of all. That dude always seemed on edge, like he had no idea who Warner had turned into and he didn’t know how to process the change. But now? No problem. Super comfortable with psycho Warner. Old pals.”
I didn’t really have any clue what was happening for like 70% of this book. Juliette/Ella is losing her mind sort of thanks to Emmaline but also the whole thing with Anderson??? ? that was weird and uncomfortable and did I mention weird?
I get that Warner was mad/sad/angry about everything that’s happening to Juliette, but it felt like a lot of his character development went out the window for a majority of this book. Like he can only be good if he’s with Juliette?
Around 80% (I was reading on my kindle) was when I FINALLY felt like I was in a Shatter Me novel. I liked the ending, but there was still a lot of unanswered questions, just like Ignite Me. But unlike IM, this book had a very strange plot (or none?) so it wasn’t my favorite.
I’m a bit disappointed in this book, it left me wanting more. It makes me want to reread the originals again. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it. I was mostly just confused and then happy at the end. It was weird but parts were good, obviously, my thoughts are a little jumbled. Just like a lot of this novel ??♀️ 3.5/5 stars
Will I read Imagine Me again? Quite possibly. Do I still recommend the Shatter Me series? Of course. Was I still confused during this book? 100%. But I love Warner and Juliette and please excuse me while I reread all the books ??
