One of the hardest questions I get when I tell people that I love reading is “what’s your favorite book?”
Um. Like, how do I even pick?
I have multiple favorite books, including this top ten list that I shared earlier this year. And every year I put together a list of books that I LOVED during that year.
I’m not gonna lie, I read a lot of really wonderful books in 2019. The ones that made it to my favorite books of 2019 are the ones that have stuck with me ever since I read them. These are the books that I recommend to people when they ask for recommendations.

My favorite books of 2019
Becoming by Michelle Obama. I listened to this one early in 2019 and I loved this book. I loved learning more about Michelle, hearing about her life, and gaining insight for my own life. This was a great book that I highly recommend.
Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes. This book was real, funny, and sweet. It was a perfect read if you want something light. It wasn’t all fluff, but it was a quick read that I adored. Full review here.
The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary. I listened to The Flatshare and loved it. Tiffy moves into an apartment with a man she doesn’t know, but they never see each other. He works at night and she works during the day so they’re never home at the same time. They communicate via sticky notes. It was funny and quirky and I loved it. There’s also a bit about the trauma that comes from emotional abuse in relationships and I thought the author handled it very well.
Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer. It’s been a long time since I read a YA contemporary that I loved so much. I read most of this in one sitting (which doesn’t happen much with Von running around). But WOW. It had You’ve Got Mail vibes and deals with loss, growing up, and friendship. Loved this one.
One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid. 2019 was also my foray into adult romance novels. I’ve pretty much stayed away, even though I like reading them. I don’t care for all the steamy scenes. But hey, I can read the book and skim or skip the scenes I want and that’s fine. And I’m so glad I did this because I fell in love with so many great books because of it. One True Loves included. This one follows Emma who marries her high school sweetheart, he dies in a plane crash, but she’s about to be remarried when she gets a call from her not dead husband. This one was so fun and it just hit my heart in a way I didn’t expect.
Again, but Better by Christine Riccio. I received an ARC of Again, but Better and shared my full review here. This book did have some flaws, but I really enjoyed it. There was a magical twist that I didn’t see coming but it fit the story. I loved reading this book and I’m hoping to re-read it again soon. There’s a study abroad, romance, and a second chance at love.
The Wicked King by Holly Black. I also fell in love with YA fantasy again this year. I loved all three books in The Cruel prince series, but The Wicked King is my favorite. There’s a budding romance from hate to love and there are twists and turns. Lying and truth told in crazy ways and ahh.. it was so good. And then the final book really sealed the deal, but I loved this one so much. Full review here.
The Boy Who Steals Houses by C.G. Drews. You mean the book that steals my heart, right? This book made me feel so many emotions. I was laughing and crying and rooting for these characters. I need MORE about these characters. What happened to Sam? What happened to Moxie?! This is another YA contemporary that seemed to slip into the world unnoticed by a lot of people, but I think everyone should read it. All my thoughts here.
When Less Becomes More by Emily Ley. I’ve been a lot about this book recently. It really came into my life when I needed it and the words hit my heart in such an unexpected way. I love how Emily writes and these words healed my soul and opened my eyes to what I want my life to be now and in the future. Full review here, but every woman should read this book, I promise, it will change your life.
Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren. For some reason, this book really hit home. I picked it up because the dual timeline is similar to my own novel and I wanted to see how this book did it.
The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell. This was a reread so that I could read book 2. I love the magic, time travel, and the world. This is such a fun series and I can’t wait to read more from Lisa in the future!
The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab. The Near Witch was Victoria’s first novel that got a bit of a revival in 2019. I picked it up for the first time. It was such a fun and spooky ghost story. I really enjoy all of her writing and I can’t wait to read the last few books of hers that I haven’t read yet, plus her new novel that’s coming out in 2020!
These were some of my favorite books in 2019. You can see everything that I read over on Goodreads. I read so many books (almost 100!) that I really loved so much. I’d love to highlight them all, but these are the ones that I think you should pick up soon!
