Tay’s Book Club is Back! + Quarter 1 of 2022 Book Picks

Back in 2018, as a brand new mom, I decided to start an online book club. I ran the book club for 3 years, right until the beginning of 2021. I took a hiatus in March 2021 and accidentally didn’t come back.

Honestly, I got a little burned out with how I was running the book club and wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue. I didn’t mean to step away for so long, it just sort of happened. But, for the past couple of weeks, I keep thinking about it. About the books that we read together and having that fun community of people who also love reading books. I’m buddy reading a Christmas romance with my sister and our friend and it hit me that maybe it’s time to bring back Tay’s Book Club.

So here we are!

It’ll be different than before (if you’re an OG, I hope you don’t mind) but all discussions will take place over on Instagram now. We’ll have a group chat that I’ll make at the beginning of the month, and based on who’s the group, we’ll decide together if we want to have one discussion or two throughout the month. Each month is optional for people to join and it really is going to be super chill.

As for the books, I’ll be picking them. We may vote on a couple, but to start this new year, I’ve picked some books that I’m really excited to read with you, and I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Quarter 1 books of 2022

On Instagram, there was an overwhelming response from so many that you wanted BOTH romance + another genre each month! We’ll be trying that out this quarter, to see how it goes. Every month we’ll be reading a romance novel plus another book, which will fall into a variety of genres. Here’s what we’ll be reading in the first few months of 2022:

January:

The Off Limits Rule by Sarah Adams. A hilarious, laugh out loud closed door rom-com. This book is the perfect pick me up and swoony story. He’s her brother’s best friend, definitely off-limits. What could go wrong?

Long Bright Rivier by Liz Moore: This mystery follows two sisters who are on opposite sides of the tracks. One is a cop, the other is a drug addict. Long Bright River is a hard hitting, character driven novel that delves into the opioid crisis and how it impacts everyone’s lives. It’s a heavier topic, but brilliantly written. I can’t wait to read this one with you, it feels like the perfect wintery read.

You can see where you can buy to read or listen to the January books here.

February:

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert: This book has been on my radar since it came out, but I’ve yet to pick up this book (or the others in the series). After almost dying, she makes a list of things that will help her ‘get a life’. This steamy romance has pretty rave reviews, so I’m looking forward to reading it!

That Sounds Fun: The joys of being an amateur, the power of falling in love, and why you need a hobby by Annie F. Downs: I don’t know about you, but after several years of trying to bring in some sort of income from practically everything I tried, I need to remember how to have fun again. In 2022, one of my goals is to have more fun and try new things just for fun. This book sounds like the perfect way to remember how to do that, to relearn how to be an amateur and just have fun!

March:

How to Love Your Neighbor by Sophie Sullivan. I adored Sophie’s first book, Ten Rules for Faking It, and this one sounds so fun. It’s been pitched as enemies to lovers meets HGTV in this new rom-com. It hit the shelves in January and sounds like a great book to read in March!

Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston: I couldn’t let Middle-Grade March (as some people call it) pass by without picking a middle-grade book. When Amari’s brother goes missing and no one seems to care, Amari digs a little deeper and learns that there may be more to her brother than she previously thought. She believes that if she wants to find out what happened to her brother, she must tryout at the secretive Bureau of Supernatural Affairs. She falls into a world she never imagined could have existed. This one sounds so magical!

Before each month, I’ll share a post about where you can find a copy of each of the books for the next month. We’ll have chats over on Instagram, so be sure to follow over there!

I can’t wait for this year and to read these books with you! Which one(s) are you most excited for this quarter?
