About A Darker Shade of Magic

Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.

Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.

Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

I’m a huge fan and advocate for the library, so be sure to check your library first or on Overdrive or Libby to read a digital copy for free! I’ve also listened to the audio, which was a fun way to experience this book if audio is your jam!

Today (9/23) A Darker Shade of Magic is only $2.99 for Kindle (you can use the free app to read If you don’t have a kindle!) I’m not sure how long this deal will last, so I’d jump on it!

Buy a copy: Bookshop.org // Amazon // Libro.fm (audio — free first month/book)

Let me know in the comments if you plan on reading with us next month!

    1. This sounds very cool! I’m in the middle of about 3 books right now but I’m going to subscribe so I can stay updated on future reads. How do you select your book club picks? Right now I’m reading Reflection: A Twisted Tale for my own book club, reading Wings of Fire for a book discussion I’m planning for work, and listening to The Extraordinaries on audiobook.

As a librarian thank you for advocating for the library! Especially with the pandemic really hurting us, getting more circulation stats for this year to "prove" to townships, the state, etc. so we can get funding for next year is hugely important <3

      1. Thank you for subscribing! You’ll get emails about all the future books! As for how I pick? Currently, I have a Facebook group where I give them 4 options each month and my group decides which book we read, they get to know first, and then I share it publically on my blog/across social media!

And I LOVE the library! I try to go to my own library often! I hadn’t even thought about how the pandemic would be impacting them so much. I am a huge library advocate!

    2. If it weren’t for the fact that I’m literally finishing this trilogy right now, I’d totally be joining this month’s book club! I love that you chose ADSOM. I hope you have so much fun with it. You’ve been picking some of my favorite books lately. I might have to join in at some point for a re-read!

      1. I know, I’d love for you to join us, but you’re just finishing! Which is so fun too! You’ll definitely have to join us in the future.
