Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles Book Review + Blog Tour

Happy Wednesday friends! As part of the blog tour for Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles, today I’ll be sharing my review of this phenomenal book! Plus you’ll get all the details on where, when, and how you can grab your own copy (cause you’ll want one, I promise!)

In a city covered in ice and ruin, a group of magicians face off in a daring game of magical feats to find the next headliner of the Conquering Circus, only to find themselves under the threat of an unseen danger striking behind the scenes.
As each act becomes more and more risky and the number of missing magicians piles up, three are forced to reckon with their secrets before the darkness comes for them next.
The Star: Kallia, a powerful showgirl out to prove she’s the best no matter the cost
The Master: Jack, the enigmatic keeper of the club, and more than one lie told
The Magician: Demarco, the brooding judge with a dark past he can no longer hide
Where Dreams Descend is the startling and romantic first book in Janella Angeles’ debut Kingdom of Cards fantasy duology where magic is both celebrated and feared, and no heart is left unscathed.

My Thoughts about Where Dreams Descend

Where Dreams Descend was/is one of my most anticipated releases of 2020 and I am thrilled to be a part of this blog tour and share my thoughts from the early copy I received from Wednesday Books.

If you’re a fan of Caraval or The Night Circus, Where Dreams Descend is going to suck you in and steal your heart. We follow Kallia, Jack, and Demarco as their worlds collide in a magic competition.

Jack has been the Master of the house where Kallia performs, but she wants more. There has to be something different. When she learns of a magic competition in the nearby town, she runs away to compete. Even though that’s almost unheard of for female magicians.

This book has a lot of girl power! And I loved learning about the magic and how it worked in this world. There’s the fun (ish) competition, but underneath that, everyone seems to be keeping secrets and there’s the mystery of what’s happening to the magicians who are disappearing or getting hurt for no apparent reason.

I really loved reading Where Dreams Descend. I did get stuck a few times in the middle, when a few things that happened didn’t feel completely necessary to the story and made me feel like it just slowed everything down, but all in all it was a fun book to read and I look forward to continuing this series!

About the Author

JANELLA ANGELES is a Filipino-American author who got her start in writing through consuming glorious amounts of fanfiction at a young age—which eventually led to penning a few of her own, and later on, creating original stories from her imagination. A lifelong lover of books, she’s lucky enough to be working in the business of publishing them on top of writing them. She currently resides in Massachusetts, where she’s most likely to be found listening to musicals on repeat and daydreaming too much for her own good. Where Dreams Descend is her first book.

Have you ever met a bookstagram friend in real lif Have you ever met a bookstagram friend in real life?! Tonight, me and my sis met up with Ashley (some of you knew her from her old account Ashley the reader) we’ve met up before, but this time we remembered to take a picture! It can be so easy to get caught up in the numbers here on intstagram. To forget why you started. I joined bookstagram because I wanted to talk about books with people who also liked books. But the relationships I’ve made have been so special and life changing! I’m grateful for each friend I’ve met here. If we talk often in DMs, know that if I ever talk to my husband about you I say “oh my friend _____ said this today” y’all are the real deal and so many of you have been my lifeline to adult connection as I became a mom and again as we have been living through the pandemic! All this to say, send that DM to someone. Start the conversation. You never know if you’ve just met a new, life long friend! 💕
“He is risen! He is risen! Tell it out with joyf “He is risen! He is risen!
Tell it out with joyful voice.
He has burst his three days’ prison;
Let the whole wide earth rejoice.
Death is conquered; man is free.
Christ has won the victory. He is risen! He is risen!
He hath opened heaven’s gate.
We are free from sin’s dark prison,
Risen to a holier state.
And a brighter Easter beam
On our longing eyes shall stream.”

For me it’s @authorsarahadams 😍😍 I finished The Off Limits Rule earlier this week. This book had me laughing out loud and I honestly loved every second! If you’re looking for something fun, quick, and light hearted, then this book is for you! It’s a closed door romance, so most of the steam happens off the page, which I didn’t mind. This book made me super happy and the second book in this series comes out next week and I can’t wait to read it (and everything else Sarah’s written) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - it was exactly what I needed right now and I’m so glad I picked it up!
