I get it, life is busy. So how do you make time to read and study the scriptures?
This is something that I really struggled with right after my daughter was born (and for the first year of her life). I was trying to balance being a new mom with everything else I was doing. God and His word got pushed to the back burner.
It wasn’t until I wanted to make scripture study a more active part of my life that I really started to pay attention to how I was spending my time.
I said I didn’t have any time for scripture study, but that was a lie. I had the time, I was just spending it on other things.
Today I’m sharing 3 easy things you can do to make more time for scripture study in your life. These won’t take much time, and it’s time you already have.
1) Use the scripture app on your phone.
I pick up my phone a lot, between checking email, social media, responding to messages, or Snapchatting my sister, I use my phone a lot during the day. One habit I’m trying to implement is opening up the Gospel Library app and reading a verse or two before I hope on Instagram or Twitter.
This makes it easier for me to not waste as much time on social media + I get little spiritual experiences throughout the day.
2) Keep your Bible or Book of Mormon in a room that you’re in often.
If you’re like me and home most of the day, keep your scriptures in a convenient spot. On your kitchen counter or on your desk. So that when you have a minute (or you’re waiting for water to boil) you can read a few verses. I’ve even heard of people keeping scriptures in their car to read when they are waiting to pick up kids or a spouse from something.
3) Listen to the scriptures.
As a mom of a toddler, sitting down to read a few verses can be tough (unless it’s nap time) but listening to my scriptures means I can still chase my daughter and play with her and get fed spiritually at the same time. True, I don’t pay as close attention when I’m listening, but it’s a better choice than always having the TV on, which I still do, I just try to listen to the scriptures first ;)
Those are three easy ways to make more time for scripture study in your life. It doesn’t have to be hard to get into the Word of God. It can still be meaningful even when we’re only getting glimpses throughout the day. The Lord will bless our efforts. Now you tell me, do you use any of these to make time for scripture study? Or do you have any other tips or suggestions? I’d love to hear them!
