Books to Read This Summer

Sharing is caring!

Summertime is right around the corner (even though it keeps raining and snowing and hailing here in Colorado) and I am ready for summer reading. I’m a big mood reader so generally the time of year doesn’t make too much of a difference on what I’m reading. But, I do like to read more contemporaries during the summer, as well as some lighter fantasy’s and I wanted to share a list of some of the books I’m looking forward to reading over the next few months.

My Plain Jane

I LOVED My Lady Jane that came out back in 2016. The story was creative and the narration was hilarious. I cannot wait to read this next book in the series. I’m sure you could read My Plain Jane first though, it’s a retelling of Jane Eyre and I couldn’t be more excited about it! This book will be fun and funny if it’s anything like the first book in the Lady Janie’s series. Add to Goodreads.

We Were Liars

I read this one a few years ago, but I want to re-read it. I went into this book without really knowing anything about it and that made it so much better. If you want to read something with a twist that you won’t see coming, this book is for you. It’s about teenagers and friendship and love and family and so much more. Definitely a good one. Wild Beauty

I’ve had Wilde Beauty on my shelf since December and I keep putting it off, but I really want to sink my teeth into this contemporary (with elements of fantasy if I understand correctly). I’m hoping to read this one soon. Add to Goodreads.

Fawkes is one of my most anticipated books this year. I’ve been seeing it start to pop up more and more on bookstagram and I really can’t wait to read it. I actually got a copy from the publisher via NetGalley so I’ll be reading it and reviewing it soon, it officially comes out in July though. Add to Goodreads.

The Nightingale

I started reading The Nightingale this month and I AM LOVING IT. This is an adult historical fiction following two sisters in France during WWII. I love all the WWII fiction books (I’m not really sure why, but they really speak to me.) anyway, this book is fabulous and you need to pick it up if you haven’t read it yet. Add to Goodreads.

This book has received quite a bit of hype. It’s on my to-buy list and I am hoping to buy it soon (I currently am reading 10 books that I own before buying a book because I’ve been known to buy way too many books at a time.) Plus, Victoria Schwab said this book was great and I just finished her Shades of Magic series and I love reading books that authors love. Add to Goodreads.

Where There’s Hope

I read Elizabeth Smart’s memoir last year and I’d really love to read her second book. As a survivor of sexual and emotional abuse myself, I’ve found a lot of healing and hope as I read Elizabeth’s first book. I’d really love to read this one too. Add to Goodreads.

Strange the Dreamer

This one has been on my TBR for a long time now and I just bought it last week and I cannot wait to read it.  I’ve heard so many good things about this book and I started reading it and already it’s amazing. Add to Goodreads.

Have you read any of these books? What books are you hoping to read this summer? Do you like to read lighter, fluffier books during the summer or something heavier?
