January 2020 Goals

I debated on whether or not I’d share my monthly goals here on my blog. Last year I only shared my goals quarterly, even though I make + track them monthly. In the end, I decided that I wanted to bring back my monthly goal posts!

A few of you mentioned in my end of 2019 survey that you love my posts about goals, and I know I always love reading them. So here we are! Each month I’ll be sharing a short recap of how my goals went the previous month and my goals for the new month.

I use Powersheets, which is a goal-setting planner, to help me cultivate, come up with, and track my goals for the year. A few weeks ago I shared my big-picture goals for 2020. All of my monthly goals go directly into one of my big-picture goals to help me get to where I want to be by the end of the year.

My goals are broken up into things that will take all month/one time tasks, things I do weekly, and things I want to make a daily habit.

January Monthly Goals

Schedule Date Nights (big picture: Delight in my marriage). G & I haven’t ever been big on going out on dates. But now that we have Von, it’s fun to get out of the house, just the two of us. This month we’re putting dates on the calendar for the next 3 months.

Make a revision plan + get started (work on my novel). This month I need to order my novel so that it flows better. Then I’ll get started on draft 3!

Schedule temple trips (grow my faith). We live so close to a temple now I want to go at least once a month this year. So just like date night, this will be going on the calendar.

Make a playlist (delight in my marriage) I love music and I’ve been wanting to make a playlist of songs that make me think of G and make me feel all the loving feelings to him.

Create 2020 Reading Challenge (blog) if you read my blog post last week, you’ll know I already did this!

January Weekly Goals

Pay $500 (or more) towards debt (cultivate finances) we are still on track to be debt free by the end of February. But we’re making an extra effort to put our extra money this month towards our last 2 credit cards!

Come, Follow Me Sunday School lesson (grow my faith) I did okay with studying for Sunday school last year, but I really want to dig in deeper this year so I can participate more in class.

1 blog post (blog) right now I’m working on blogging consistently, which means one post a week. I’m hoping to grow that number as the year goes on, but for now this is what works for me and my schedule!

Epic Wives Experiment video + challenges (delight in my marriage) my sister in law told me about this experiment/mini-course so I signed up! Each week there is a training video and then different experiments/challenges to do throughout the week to help you become a better wife + strengthen your marriage. I’m loving it so far.

BossPitch video (blog) I love learning and I’ve been making my way through BossPitch so that I can work with some of the brands I love to share them even more with YOU. As well as help earn a little more as a blogger.

January Daily Goals

Read the scriptures. This year we’re studying the Book of Mormon in church and I want to be reading it every day. I also just started reading the Bible again, because I felt like I should read the entire thing looking for Christ in the scriptures. I’m taking it super slow though, so even if it takes longer than this year, I’ll finish it at some point.

Move my body for 30 minutes (5 days a week) Our weekend habits always mess me up when it comes to working out, then I get frustrated and just stop. So, trying something new and I’ll be working out M-F each week, at least, that’s the goal.

Journal. I used to journal almost every day. I filled 13 journals from the ages of 12-19. And then I just sort of stopped after my mission. But I miss it. I love being able to look back at old journals and remember things. I love having a physical place to clear my head. So even if it’s just a sentence, I’m aiming to journal daily.

Those are my January goals. I’m working towards progress, not perfection and giving myself a lot of grace if it doesn’t go as planned. It’s been a good month so far, and I’m excited to see how the rest of this month (and year) goes.

What are you working on this month?

    1. Thank you! It’s been so fun to think about dating again since we haven’t made it a priority in a few years! We went on a date last week and had such a fun time.

  2. These are very realistic goals and I love them. This month I’m working on waking up an hour earlier to have some ‘me’ time before the rest of the clan wakes up.

    1. Thank you! I learned last year that I don’t have to do all the things in January to still reach and make progress on my big goals. I broke my goals down to small and manageable things this year and it’s going great so far!

  3. These are great goals! I love your goal of having date nights! Such a great idea!!

    1. Thank you!! I’m so excited to have regular date nights again!

  4. Love the layout of this planner! While I’m a digital person myself, there’s nothing quite like an aesthetically pleasing organized sheet like that to help set your intentions and keep you on track.

    1. Yes! I love it so much. It helps me get out of my head as I go through the prep work and write out my goals each month!

  5. Goals are so important in life, you’re so right. As for me, I’m working on myself this month and I’m learning to be less strict…

    1. It’s so important to take time to work on yourself! I hope this month goes well for you 🙂
